Why Heat the Print Bed?

Heating the print bed is a common practice that serves to improve the adhesion of the first layer of the printing material to the bed. This is especially important for materials such as ABS, which tend to contract as they cool, causing the printed object to detach from the bed. The recommended temperature for ABS is around 100°C, while for PLA, a material less prone to warping, 50-60°C1 may be sufficient.

Leveling and Adhesion: The Key Factors

Correct leveling of the bed is essential to ensure good adhesion. If the extruder is too far from the plate, the filament will not adhere correctly, compromising the quality of the print. It is essential that the extruder is lightly pressed against the bed to ensure that the filament sticks well during printing.

Improve Adhesion Without Overloading Heat

While heat is helpful for adhesion, it is important not to overdo it. A bed that is too hot can negatively affect the shape of the lower layers of the print. Therefore, it is advisable to keep the bed temperature as low as possible to avoid deformation.


Heating the 3D print bed is a recommended practice to improve adhesion and prevent warping issues, especially with materials such as ABS. However, it is important to balance the temperature so as not to compromise the quality of the print. With proper leveling and adequate temperature, high-quality 3D prints with excellent adhesion to the bed can be achieved.
